On Friday, February 16th over 40 UAB students, faculty, and staff boarded a bus from UAB and headed down to Montgomery for our third Black Belt Friday Bus trip.

Once arriving in Montgomery, the bus headed to Lee High school where the BBF volunteers was greeted by the Lee High School principal, Dr. Lorenza Pharrams, before setting out to work with the students. Our volunteers split off into pairs of college students and professionals before visiting 17 classrooms of 9th and 10th grade students, over 400 students, during their 3rd block.

Making the most of their time with the students, our volunteers led their respective classrooms in activities including a game of college lingo bingo and walking through a grade reflection sheet. The volunteers also shared their own college and career journeys with the students in hopes of inspiring them in the pursuit of their own dreams. All the mentoring activities were designed to inspire and encourage the students at Lee High School.

After the mentoring period ended, the volunteers were treated to a luncheon prepared by the GUA Montgomery team. The volunteers used the lunch period to debrief their day before heading back to UAB.
